putting my paint program skills to work for theroomsies:

Just spent the morning fighting our parking ticket online. We can really relate to Louie C.K.’s parking dilemma now.

To Whom it May Concern:

I am sorry for any inconvenience our rented U-Haul may have caused any residents at 40-14 21st Avenue. I assumed that an avenue was an appropriate place to park a commercial vehicle, especially since there were other commercial vehicles parked on the street. We parked the U-Haul there sometime after 10PM on Friday evening. At the time I was completely unaware that there were any night-parking restrictions on commercial vehicles. My drivers license is from California, and that is not something I recall learning about there, and was not informed of any special commercial vehicle rules by the U-Haul center I rented from. My friend that was driving, Jenny Donheiser, was also unaware of that law. Now that I am aware, I realize that the other commercial van parked directly in front of us had to also have be in violation by that time of night. My ticket also states that we were on 21st Street, but that is incorrect, as the 40-14 address would not match up if that were so. We were parked on 21st Avenue, which I am still confused as to why that is considered a residential street. The building we parked in front of appeared to be an office of some kind that was attached to a Deli. We double checked to make sure we were not blocking any driveways, and were complying with any signs on the street, the only one of which referred to street cleaning on a weekday.

I live not far from 21st avenue, and wish to be a respectful neighbor and member of my community. I truly believed I was within parking rules and did not feel I was causing any residents an inconvenience. I am frustrated that there was no sign posting this rule, because had there been any notation I would not have parked there. In the future, I will of course be more aware of this law, and will comply as such, but I feel I should not have been ticketed for something I had no way of knowing was illegal.

If there is any more detailed information on night parking and commercial vehicles I could access for future reference, I would greatly appreciate knowing how to get that. I am an artist and often have to rent commercial vans to transport my materials.

Today is my birthday, and a happy one it has been!

Today is my little sister’s 21st Birthday. Happy Birthday, Paige!

One time before this blog existed, I made this fairy picture of her, because she has always looked a bit like a tiny magical creature, even though she is very tall. Her hair was long then, but with her new haircut, she looks even more fairy-like to me.

Last summer we shared alcoholic drinks in Ireland, our family’s homeland, where she was legal at the time. Today she drank her first legal American drinks. WOOO! I tried my hardest to be a good bad influence on her with my birthday gift.

Paige is super smart and studying psychology, but in her spare time, loves to be in the kitchen. Check out her blog at Kitchen Psychology for fantastic recipes and her helpful tips! Even if you don’t like to cook, it’s a great blog for people who like to eat!
